Michael Kasprowicz will stay with Glamorgan for the 2005 season after signing a one-year deal with the club.
"Michael was quite prepared to sign up because it is a nice fall-back situation if Australia does not work out for him," explained Glamorgan chief executive Mike Fatkin.
Glamorgan also want to retain Matthew Elliott, Kasprowicz's Australian team-mate, even though both players could be unavailable through international commitments next summer - namely the Ashes. Elliott is expected to sign a deal in the next two weeks.
In securing Kasprowicz for another season, Glamorgan will prevent their rivals from chasing the prolific seamer. But Mick Lewis, who has impressed in his inaugural county season, provides a potential replacement option if Kasprowicz is required for Australia.
