Obtains injunction/enjoining order
Moratuwa Sports Club's Board of Trustees has filed action in the
District Court of Moratuwa on September 9 before the District Judge,
Mr. Thilak Thabrew applying for an injunction order preventing the
socalled office bearers from holding office and further mismanaging
the affairs of the club under case No. 80/SPL which was supported on
behalf of the Trustees by Attorney-at-Law, Ranjith Gunawardene who is
a life member of the club.
The District Judge, Mr. Thilak Thabrew on facts placed before him
allowed and issued injunction as prayed for against the so-called
office bearers and fixed the case for inquiry on Sept. 23.
The Trustees point out that in Jan. 1996, at an AGM of the club the
office bearers have been appointed, some of whom are not
constitutionally elected members. People who have never been elected
members of the club have been given to hold offices which is illegal.
Neither they have any background in managing affairs of the club
which has led the pioneer cricket club of Moratuwa to suffer
demotions in BCCSL cricket tournaments year after year.
Further as per information provided by senior members and some office
bearers themselves. There is a complete breakdown of administration
due to absolute negligence of the so-called office bearers who have
brought about a defunct situation of the club.
Moratuwa SC who have been in the forefront in cricket have nose dived
into a hopeless position just playing Div. II cricket and management
is at a total standstill.
On 10th July '98, we, the Trustees wrote to the so-called Gen.
Secretary of our club with the best of intentions and in good faith
requesting him to convene an early meeting with the General Committee
to discuss with them the calamity that has befallen Moratuwa SC with
a view to taking remedial action to prevent further disaster.
"We are shocked and flabbergasted on revelations made by Treasurer
and the finances of the club is to total disarray. Further as
Trustees of the club and as immediate past office bearers we cannot
go about in the town or attend a funeral or wedding or public
function nor even go to a market as the public of Moratuwa raises the
issues regarding the unbelievable situation and the catastrophe
enacted by the so-called office bearers who have RUINED the club's
cricket, its reputation and its existence," the Trustees said.
