Duleep Mendis asked to explain?
The 'DAILY NEWS' reliably understands that the Executive Committee of
the Cricket Board which met last Saturday, had decided to ask chairman
of selectors Duleep Mendis to explain why he had not informed the
Secretary of the CB when they sat to pick the Sri Lanka team for the
First Test against New Zealand.
The secretary usually convenes the meeting although he does not take
part in the discussions.
"Convening a meeting and picking a squad without the knowledge of the
CB secretary is unconstitutional', said a Cricket Board official when
contacted for his views.
When asked whether an explanation has been called for, chairman of
selectors Duleep Mendis said that he had not received any verbal or
written request for explanation. (ER)
KDCA cricket seminar a great success
Kandy south group correspondent
The Kandy District Cricket Association in conjunction with the Board
of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka conducted a seminar on umpiring
and the laws of cricket at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy recently.
National Grid Umpire B. C. Cooray and Fitzroy de Mel conducted this
seminar which was attended by over 50 participants. Among the
participants were cricket umpires, cricket coaches, masters in charge,
cricketers and schoolboys. The participants were given an insight into
the laws of cricket and matters arising from the laws and also what is
known as the unwritten laws of the game.
