A fighting unbeaten half-century by captain Jason Parris failed
to prevent a Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Under-19 XI
from going under by five wickets to the touring Surrey Under-19
team of England in a limited-overs cricket match at BET on
Monday.
Opener Parris batted with grit and determination for 61 off 112
deliveries but the young Barbadians were restricted to 132 for
six in 35 overs on a helpful pitch after they were sent in.
Rohan Nurse (27) and Ryan Layne (11) were the only other
batsmen to reach double figures.
The young Surrey team made 133 for five in 33.3 overs with
useful contributions by Joe Plrter (28), Scott Newman (27),
Ricky Clarke (24 not out) and wicket-keeper Effren Cruz (19 not
out).
A Barbados Combined XI also lost to Surrey in another
limited-overs game at the Pine Basin on Sunday.
Batting first, the Combined XI folded for 96 in 30.5 overs with
Alcindor Holder topscoring with 39.
Surrey easily knocked off the runs, reaching 97 for six in 29.5
overs through an unbeaten 30 from Philip Pemberton.
The Surrey team will next play the Barbados Defence Force?s
Sports Programme in a two-day match starting tomorrow.
