Monster hit to finish, but McCullum kicks the ground in disgust for this is an effort in a losing cause. Oh, dear. How did it come down to this? McCullum waits inside the crease and hammers this high and over long-off.
Heat vs Sixers, 2nd Semi-Final at Brisbane, Jan 25 2017 - Match Result
That was an incredible semi-final. One of the best in BBL history. The Sixers looked certain to cruise home with Moises Henriques in complete control during that run chase. But his dismissal led to a terrible collapse. Ben Cutting bowled an incredible last over to send it to a super over but he was helped by an unfortunate umpiring decision that went against the dangerous Johan Botha.
Henriques got another chance in the super over to finish the job and his tremendous striking took the game away. Sean Abbott did his job with the ball but 22 was too many.
So we're set for yet another BBL final between the Scorchers and the Sixers at the WACA on Saturday. Join us then.
Brisbane Heat are out. Sydney Sixers have scraped home in a thriller. They'll play Perth Scorchers in the final at the WACA. Time to get my breath back. This has been a roller coaster ride! Sydney Sixers will play their third BBL final. Twice they've met Scorchers in the summit clash. They've won one, lost one. All set up for a thrilling finale, then
swings over the bowler's head but can only toe end it towards long-off. All over by the shouting
Heat fans starting to leave
swung away straight to short fine leg. Is that the end of their campaign? Abbott will remind himself. No no-ball or
swung away from outside off towards long-on, through the hands of Botha who was running around the ropes. Made good ground to get there, but closed his eyes and hands little too soon
full and sliding down leg, McCullum swings and misses but wide called. Even a hint of bat on that would have been enough to get a boundary though
mistimes a wild slog to the man coming in from long-on, looking tough
starts off with a slower bouncer on off, way too early into the pull, misses. Umpire reckons it wasn't over
slower outside off, Henriques waits inside the crease and swings this back of length delivery into the deep square leg boundary. Didn't get hold of it but the gap was found. What a finish. Some hitting that!
muscled over long-on! For a moment, it looked like the fielder was in business, but he just watched it sailed over. Big hit. Can't bowl length. He was waiting, waiting and boom!
this time the keeper's underarm flick hits the stumps direct at the striker's end. They steal a bye again. Looked to slap that over cover but was beaten by the slower delivery yet again
keeper misses, they scamper a bye again. Slower delivery outside off, it got stuck into the pitch, he was through with an uppish cut way too early.. Free-hit however, since it is the second boncer. Oh, dear
full and straight on middle, he's biffed that over deep midwicket. Swung that away like he was away on a golf course
another slower bouncer, tennis ball bounce on this one, pulls but doesn't get hold of it but there's enough to get it into the gap at deep midwicket and long-on, two it will be
slower bouncer, he goes through with the pull way too early and misses, they scamper a bye
What drama! McCullum calls his boys into a huddle. Plenty of calculations. Plenty of things to ponder. It looks like Ben Cutting will bowl the over for Brisbane Heat. Henriques is readying to bat. The off side boundary is the bigger one. Wonder then if it makes sense to have a left-right combination. Yes! That's what they're doing. Munro and Henriques are walking out to open.
What an amazing finish! Cutting conceded just five from the last over, only four off the bat. A super over is coming.
they get two! A super over! It was short ball, Dwarshuis tries to pull, gets a top edge and it flies to a vacant midwicket, it hung in the air for an age, but it fell safe and they run two as the man at midwicket couldn't get in off the rope to either catch it or prevent two.
Three to win, two for a super over
Well bowled. Now they need to stop two to prevent a super over. What a finish.
yorker, into the pad, it rolls back towards the bowler and they pinch a leg bye!
Caught behind! Botha tried to reverse ramp a length ball over short third man, it bounces off the bicep, not the bat and flies to Peirson but he's given out! Botha is furious but he has to go! The gloves were close but he didn't connect.
Long off goes back and third man up
short ball, pulled in the air towards midwicket, it bounces short of deep midwicket and Swepson races in to prevent a second
Dwarshuis to face his first ball with 5 need off 4.
full and straight, whipped straight to deep backward square but only one!
Four men back on the rope on the leg side, no one in the ring.
short slower ball, attempted pull comes off the body and runs to the keeper! Dot ball
Cutting will bowl the last over. Six to win off six. They didn't cross so Botha is on strike.
Caught at long on! Short of a length slower ball, he sat back and waited, slaps a pull shot but hit it too flat, picked out long on and Labuschagne takes the catch!
slower ball outside off, run off the open face towards third man
Ramps it fine for four! Incredible shot! Fine leg was moved square, he predicted the full ball outside off, he shaped for the lap ramp fine and executed it perfectly. That is so good from Botha.
good length middle and off, 129kph, defended from the crease
Sameer: "Can Botha and Abott repeat the glory again!"
lofted up and over cover! Slower ball outside off, again he picked it and played a classic lofted cover drive! Brilliant batting.
Pulled backward of square! Superb shot! It was a drag down short ball, he was waiting and pounded the pull shot into the gap and the fieldsmen on the rope were no chance
Mitchell: "I find it funny how no one is mentioning all the players the Sixers have on international duty, yet the teams like the Heat and Stars seem to have issues with the fact that their players get picked for international duty, which should be considered a badge of pride to the teams, for having, or producing quality players, especially in the case of Lynn, who surely got a call up because of his early BBL form"
Spinnercoach : "It is an honour to play for Australia. Sixers would have Smith, Starc and Hazelwood if they weren't playing for Aus."
full toss on leg stump driven to long on
attempted reverse sweep and he misses out!
short ball, pulled through square leg to the sweeper
Dave: "How's the over rate, Alex?"
Seems OK Dave
top spinner straight, worked through midwicket
tossed and driven hard in the air for a long time to long off
Run out! Chaos! This was outside off, Haddin just dabbed it to short third man and took off, he was sent by Botha as there was no run there, the throw was slick from Badree and Peirson didn't have to do too much to break the stumps and Haddin is miles short!
full outside off, square driven straight to backward point
late cut to third man again but they only get one
