Bangladesh World Cuppers will get a crash course on fast bowling from
a former England cricketer on the team's arrival in England, said a
BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) spokesman last night.
Alan Ward, who played for his country between 1969-79, will join as
bowling assistant to coach Gordon Greenidge on April 15. Bangladesh
cricketers will leave for England the day before.
The almost unknown Ward, who is reported to have run a cricket clinic
in England and is also connected with the English Cricket Board, will
work with Bangladesh pacers for two weeks.
The right-arm fast bowler, who made his Test debut against New Zealand
in 1969, played only 5 matches for England, taking 14 wickets and
scoring 40 runs. Ward, whose career-best figure is 4/61, last played
against West Indies at Leeds in 1976.
The Board however did not provide any further detail about the
contract. It earlier confirmed that Pakistan cricket great Mushtaq
Mohammad would join the Bangladesh team as consultant in England, also
on April 15. Mushtaq, who is tipped to replace Greenidge after the
World Cup, will help the spinners.
