International Cricket Council (ICC) president Jagmohan Dalmiya left
the capital for Calcutta yesterday after a three-day visit to review
the progress of the forthcoming Wills International Cup tournament to
be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka from October 24.
During his visit, the ICC boss last Sunday inspected the ground, the
newly-installed flood lights and electronic scoreboard and other
facilities being developed at the Dhaka Stadium. He also called on the
State Minister for Youth and Sports Obaidul Quader the same evening.
David Richards, the chief executive of ICC, and Asif Iqbal, the event
manager, who accompanied Mr. Dalmiya during the visit, left Dhaka
yesterday evening.
Asif, the former Pakistan Test cricketer, will return to the capital
on October 5 to supervise the final stage of the preparations and will
be present during the tournament. Richards is due again on October 20,
four days before the knock-out tournament involving nine Test playing
nations gets under way.
