Somerset Sabres are still looking to record their first National Cricket League victory of the season after being defeated by the Scottish Saltires in a rain affected match at Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh this afternoon.
Chasing a the Sabres total of 179 the Saltires reached their target for the loss of four wickets, thanks to a fine 103 not out from opener Ryan Watson.
Despite the setbacks caused around the ground by the previous days storms the game started on time and after winning the toss and batting first the Sabres had reached 23 for the loss of Jamie Cox (17) before the players left the field because of the rain.
By the time the players returned at 5.15 pm the match had been reduced to 16 overs a side and in the remaining 11 overs the Sabres took their score onto 179 for 3 before their innings closed.
Marcus Trescothick carried on where he left off on Wednesday, and by the close of the innings was unbeaten on 80, which included 5 x 6's and 6 x 4's.
Ian Blackwell made 34 and shared in a third wicket partnership of 79 with the England man, and skipper Mike Burns contributed a useful 29 to an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 46 with Trescothick.
Despite needing to score at a rate of more than 11 runs an over the Saltires were always up with the required rate thanks to Watson who clubbed 7 x 6`s and 10 x 4's from just 44 balls in his match winning innings.
This result will be a big disappointment to Somerset particularly after they had won so convincingly just 48 hours earlier in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy, and leaves them still to get off the mark in the white ball competition.
