Boult wraps up a 70-run win. Pinpoint yorker, this (reverse-)swings away as well, beating the poke of Irfan to crash into the off stump
New Zealand vs Pakistan, 1st ODI at Wellington, Jan 25 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
6:36pm: After a late surge carried New Zealand to 280, Elliott broke the top order. Hafeez and Azam put Pakistan back on track in the chase, but the rest of the middle order fell away. Boult then razed the tail, celebrating his ascent to World No.1, with a four-wicket haul. New Zealand dismissed Pakistan for 210 in 46 overs, despite the absence of McClenaghan in the attack who had retired hurt after a blow to his eye while batting.
Azhar Ali: We got six wickets for 99. From there, scoring 280 was exceptional. I think all the bowlers bowled really well. Only the last few overs went for too many. I think it was chaseable. The wickets of Hafeez and Babar at that time cost us. There is a lot of positives from this game. We will try to correct ourselves in the next game
KW: The first quarter was a low score. The way the bowlers whacked it around the park went a long way in giving us the total. It was great effort from the lower order and Nicholls. We were smart with the ball. Henry anchoring the innings gave us a competitive total. It was unfortunate to Mitch, he has got a few stitches. Hopefully, he will be okay. The spin of Mitch Santner was pretty good; the boys juggled nicely.
Nicholls, Man of the Match: They bowled really well at the start, but we found a way to get back into the game. We just managed to stay positive, 280 was probably a fraction above par. Playing in the Big Bash is a great experience. It was been a full-on week.
That is all we have for you. Many thanks for joining us. Do tune in for the second ODI too on Thursday. Until then, goodbye and cheerio
DEE: "that's why Boult is now number one ODI bowler. What a yorker."
Selvan: "Amazing comeback by the Kiwis from 99 for 6! Awesome"
Jawad: "Pakistan miss a finisher in ODIs. Pakistan miss Afridi."
