Kuala Lumpur will host all the matches of a tri-series involving Australia, India and West Indies next month. Singapore was also being considered as a venue, but Cricket Australia confirmed the seven games would be played in Malaysia as the teams prepare for the Champions Trophy in India in October.
A group of Cricket Australia and Australian Cricket Association delegates have examined the facilities of the Kinrara Oval and they will continue to assess the city's security and logistical arrangements in the lead-up to the event. "It is exciting to bring the game to newer cricketing frontiers and to showcase some of the best players in the world," James Sutherland, the Cricket Australia chief executive, said. "Our colleagues in Malaysia have enthusiastically embraced the concept of this tournament."
Australia's previous visit to Kuala Lumpur was in 1998 when Steve Waugh's side collected a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. The series starts on September 12 with each side playing two matches before the final on September 24. Australia's first game of the Champions Trophy is against one of the two qualifying teams at Mumbai on October 18.
