Georgetown, Cana: A fine all-round performance from Sherman
Gordon led Jamaica to a 65-run victory over Trinidad and Tobago
at the Diamond Community Centre ground here yesterday as the 1999
regional Under-15 cricket competition got underway.
Fast bowler Gordon hit a blistering 44 in Jamaica's 155 all out
then captured three wickets for 11 runs as Trinidad and Tonago
were dismissed for 90.
Gordon also featured in an eighth-wicket partnership of 77 from
92 balls with Chacon Chambers (39) which rescued Jamaica from a
disastrous 56 for seven after they had been asked to take first
knock in the game, reduced to 45 overs because of a late start.
The Jamaicans were soon reeling at 26 for three through the
efforts of robust fast bowler Richard Kelly.
After lunch, taken at 56 or six, Howard Powell was run out
without scoring to bring together Chambers and Gordon. With
sensible batting the pair took the advantage away from the
Trinidadians with Gordon being the more aggressive. He took 54
balls to make 44 which included four fours and two sixes before
he became the second of four run out victims after lunch.
Chambers' innings which lasted 87 balls and included three fours
and two sixes, was also ended by the run out route.
Anrit Jaggernauth ended with figures of three for 17 from nine
overs while Kelly claimed three for 29.
Trinidad were also off to a bad start with Gordon and Gary
Herbine each picking up a wicket as the score reached four for
two.
There was a steady third wicket stand of 37 between Imran Khan
(16) and Satesh Naidoo (19) which brought the Trinidadians back
into the game. But there was little resistance after this
partnership was broken and the Jamaicans pulled off a well
deserved victory.
