Duncan Fletcher, the former England coach, will work with the New Zealand team as a consultant during their ongoing ODI series in India. Fletcher, who also captained Zimbabwe, is now a full-time coaching consultant and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has hired him in a bid to "keep the environment fresh" within the team.
Fletcher will join New Zealand in Jaipur ahead of the second ODI on November 30 and work with Mark Greatbatch, the team's head coach. New Zealand lost the first ODI in Guwahati on Sunday after recently suffering a 4-0 thrashing in Bangladesh.
"Duncan is a highly regarded coach and we are looking forward to having someone with his cricketing knowledge engage with the team," Roger Mortimer, NZC high performance manager, said. "Part of my role is to work with the coaching unit to provide the best environment for growth and development of the team. This includes tapping into the knowledge available from world class cricket experts. We've had a number of specialists come in and work with the unit or individual players and it's proven to be really beneficial."
Fletcher also worked with South Africa and Hampshire in temporary roles. While he was coach of England, the team moved from the bottom of the ICC Test rankings to No. 3. The high point came in 2005 when England regained the Ashes for the first time since 1986-87.
