South Canterbury took the lead in the WestpacTrust women's two-day
cricket competition after an outright win over Lancaster
Park-Woolston at Geraldine Domain.
In its first innings, LPW was bundled out for 52 with Lisa Astle (15)
the top-scorer. Selena Charteris impressed, taking three for two, and
Miranda Walker claimed two for eight.
South Canterbury gained a healthy 102-run advantage before declaring
with Jonelle Amalfitano scoring a sound 36.
LPW fared better in its second innings with the top order -- Jo
Strachan 45, Pip Gilson 25 and Lisa Astle 38 -- all making useful
contributions.
However, its tail folded cheaply, and the side was dismissed for 145.
South Canterbury reached the necessary 43 for the loss of only one
wicket yesterday.
Sally Frahm provided the highlight of the round, with a century for
St Albans Gold against St Albans Blue. Her 105 took her side to first
innings points over its club rival.
Marist and East-Shirley also drew. Anna Smith made a fine half
century as Marist reached 178 in its first innings. In reply, Jess
Ramage steered East to first innings points with a well-compiled 89.
Marist made 171 for nine in its second innings, leaving East to score
126 in 18 overs. It knocked off 95 of those runs.
