St Albans advanced to the semi-finals of The Press knock-out club
cricket championship with a tense last-over, two-run win over South
Canterbury at Hagley Oval.
St Albans produced a competitive 173 for eight from their 40 overs
yesterday. South Canterbury was in trouble at nine for three, but a
101-run fourth-wicket stand between Stephen Begg and Grant Brookland
carried it within striking distance. The visitors wanted just four
from the last over, but Matt Gower only yielded one.
Marist was an emphatic 109-run winner against Old Collegians at
Warren Park with a forceful 77 from Darron Reekers setting the tempo.
Riccarton joins Marist, St Albans, and Mid-Canterbury in the final
four after High School Old Boys defaulted their match.
In the women's matches, East-Shirley overpowered a composite Sydenham
and Mid-Canterbury side by 10 wickets, while St Albans won
comfortably over Marist. They join South Canterbury and Canterbury
Country, which had first-round byes, in the semi-finals.
