With cricket at the top of the sports agenda these days, what with Sri Lanka's triumphs in England, now it is the turn of our blind cricketers to show their prowess.
The President's XI of the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped will take on the President's XI of the Sri Lanka Council for the Blind, at the school for the Blind Sports Ground, Galle Road, Ratmalana, today commencing at 10.00 am.
The teams will comprise of the players selected for the National team (to participate in the World Cup for blind cricketers to be played in New Delhi, India, in November this year) and a few other regulars.
The match is being played in preparation for the World Cup tournament. The players have been training for the past few months and many good performances are expected.
The match is being sponsored by the Ceylon Hardware Merchants' Association and the winning team will be awarded a challenge trophy donated by the association.
Special awards will be made to the best performers. Endeavours are being made to have some of the Sri Lankan cricket stars as guests of honour and to distribute the awards.
Blind musicians are scheduled to provide entertainment during the breaks.
