Quotes
"I felt like I played well to get us up to a good score," said Jos Buttler, the player of the match. "It turned out to be a fantastic game. We needed Stokes to hit that last ball for six as well, too, him hitting that last ball for six…and that fantastic over at the death."
"A little tight," admitted Morgan. "After our first 3 or 4 wickets to take them so early was fantastic. The seamers thrived on the conditions tonight." Unfortunately, the mic was broken so we didn't hear clearly from Angelo.
That's all from us. If you've got nothing better on tomorrow, you might like Aus v India - a minor little scuffle. It'll pass the time though! Thanks for your company today, and goodnight.
An outstanding game. England held their nerve against some audacious Sri Lankan strokeplay, mostly from Mathews whose 73 was made off one leg. They got themselves very, very close; but two brilliant overs from Jordan and Stokes snuffed out Sri Lanka's fire. Breathless stuff.
What a superb over this is from Stokes under immense pressure
swung to midwicket but they don't get a run - and England are almost home!
They need two sixes right about now
12 from 3 balls. This is pressure. This is real, real pressure
dot ball another superb yorker!
Rashid got a hand to that. Just a fingertip but still. 11 from 3
scoops it just over Rashid at short fine-leg! Will it go for four. No.
13 from 4
superb yorker, dug out for two - crummy throw from Willey I think, wide of Buttler, and they get back for two
15 from 5
full toss, bashed to cover. Dot ball
This is too tense Stokes to bowl the final over with 15 required for England to enter the semi-finals of the World Twenty20. Ha - it's drizzling now, too.
bowled him! Jordan discovers his yorker when it most matters, and what a yorker too - demolishing middle-and-off
15 from 7. Herath on strike, though - need to get Mathews back on strike for the final over
very, very wide and crashed out through cover but only for a single
Or 15 for a Super Over. Mathews on strike
16 from 8
short and mistimed pull but they get a single, and Mathews is back on strike
This is getting silly now. 17 from 9
catch it - what a catch from Root! Shanaka leant back and murdered this but uppishly, just to Root's left at mid-off, who flung himself high and to his left, two-handed, to pounch a stunner!
17 from 10. Everyone ok? Quiet evening, all in all.
yorker but, that is superb - Shanaka has guided this out to the vacant third man for four. I don't know how he managed that - what skill. Opened the face and it squirted for four!
21 from 11 and Mathews is not on strike
very full - full toss - to mid-off but just for a single
Right. Deep breaths, everyone. 22 from 12. 22 from two overs. There's no other way of saying it. Who wants it? Jordan's got the ball. Here we go...
short - he swings it leg-side and it bisects the two men in the deep. Four!
26 from 13
goes for a scoop but misses!
a vast, humungous blow - the sound off the bat was something to hear! Smashed over long-on
Another great over from Willey. Becoming a key bowler for England
outside off, Mathews can only slap this out to cover
short, goes to pull and top-edges it - a real welly of a shot! Mistimed but plonks safely at square leg
goes for a pull but under-edges it - to the keeper. dot ball
Stokes? Still Willey. 34 from the final three.
very good from Jordan this time, yorker on leg stump and it balloons off his pads for a single
a Jordan special, yorker, outside off
