Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Abu Dhabi

Pro Tip: Fill your XI with in-form players as well big-match players.
Our XI: David Warner, Wriddhiman Saha, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Kane Williamson, AB de Villiers, Jason Holder, Sandeep Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rashid Khan
Substitutes: Manish Pandey, Chris Morris, T Natarajan, Shivam Dube
NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant) updates, so please finalise your team after the toss.
Player availability: Chris Morris hurt himself in the game against the Delhi Capitals, and there is no official news on his status yet. All other players are available for selection.
Captain: David Warner
Warner is coming off some aggressive innings, including an unbeaten 85 against the Mumbai Indians in a must-win game. He has scored 159 runs in his last three innings at a rapid strike rate of 163.91. It is a huge game and you would expect Warner to lead from the front, especially given his great run of form.
Vice-captain: AB de Villiers
Though de Villiers has blown hot and cold this season, he has scored 398 runs at a strike rate of 163.78. He should especially enjoy batting against the Sunrisers at the death, given they have gone at 11.01 runs an over in that phase this season. de Villiers has also been at his best at the death, where he strikes at 230.86.
Hot Picks
Wriddhiman Saha: Saha has made a huge impact since his comeback. He has scored 184 runs - including two half-centuries - in his last three innings at a strike rate of 150.81. Saha has a strike rate of 169.04 in the powerplay this season and given he's also a good wicketkeeper, you could get a lot of points.
Rashid Khan: Khan has been among the wickets throughout the season while also having a commendable economy rate. In the last five games, he has picked up eight wickets at an economy of just 4.85 runs an over. Overall this season, Khan has picked up 19 wickets at an economy of 5.28 and is thus a must have.
Yuzvendra Chahal: Chahal has picked up at least a wicket in eight out of the last nine games. Overall, he has 20 wickets this season at an economy of 7.16. Among all spinners who have picked ten or more wickets in the middle overs this season, Chahal has the best strike rate of 14.4.
Differential Picks
Sandeep Sharma: Sharma has been fantastic with the ball upfront for the Sunrisers. He has picked up 13 wickets this season at an economy of 7.34, nine of which have come in the last four games. That gives Sharma recent form, especially in the powerplay, where his strike rate this season is 18.66, which reduces to 12 in the last four matches.
Devdutt Padikkal: Padikkal has been a revelation for the Royal Challengers this season. He is their highest run-getter with 472 runs at a strike rate of 126.54. He has been fairly consistent, having scored five half-centuries so far. Padikkal also fields in key positions, giving some scope for fielding points.
Alternate Scenarios
  • Given all of the last five games in Abu Dhabi have been won by the chasing side, choose your captain from the team batting second.
  • Virat Kohli has had an ordinary IPL by his standards and a big innings is likely around the corner. Hence, use him as an alternative captain or vice-captain option.
  • Kane Williamson has an average of 71.66 against the Royal Challengers since 2018, while Manish Pandey averages only 34. But Pandey bats at No. 3 and mans the hot spots in the field, so he is an alternative option.
  • If Chris Morris is fit and playing, replace Mohammed Siraj with Morris given Morris is an allrounder.
