Easy wins for UAE, New Zealand

A round-up of the quarter-finals for the ninth place playoff at the Under-19 World Cup

UAE Under-19s made short work of Scotland Under-19s in Abu Dhabi, knocking them over for 119 before chasing it down with seven wickets and nearly 18 overs to spare. Scotland started off reasonably well, reaching 34 for 0 before losing five wickets for 29 runs. New-ball bowlers Omer Mohammed and Pankaj Prakash shared seven wickets as Scotland's innings fizzled out.
Scotland struck in the first over of the chase, removing Dan D'Souza for a duck, but it was always going to be difficult to defend such a small total. Shiv Mehra and Shorye Chopra put on 51 for the second wicket to put UAE on course, and Shivank Vijayakumar's patient unbeaten 28 ensured a straightforward victory. It was UAE's first win of the tournament, after losing all three of their league matches.
Papua New Guinea Under-19s' openers put on 86, but New Zealand Under-19s were always in the control of the game once that stand was broken. Half-centuries from Ken McClure and Robert O'Donnell eased New Zealand to a six-wicket victory, reaching the target of 187 in the 47th over.
PNG's Kiplin Doriga made 50 and his opening partner Riley Hekure collected 35, but three others in the top six made 2 or less and PNG went from 86 for 0 to 105 for 5, instigated by offspinner Raki Weerasundara. There was a 56-run stand for the sixth wicket between Hiri Hiri and Tom Willie before another collapse, as the final five wickets went down for 25 runs. New Zealand had a couple of run-outs in their innings, but there were no clumps of wickets which ensured a fairly smooth chase.
