2006-07 HKCA Saturday League
A full round of Saturday League matches was played in hazy conditions on 21st October 2006.
At Po Kong Village Road Number 1 ground Laguna Gully took on Mainlanders. Batting first, the Laguna Gully team posted a total of 264-9 from the 35 overs , with R Ranganathan and R Desai hitting half centuries. Sunny Mirchandani claimed four wickets for Mainlanders while Najeeb Amar grabbed three. When Mainlanders batted, Najeeb lead the chase, hitting 102, but his efforts were in vain as the Mainlanders were dismissed for 224. D Abishek claimed three wickets for Laguna Gully.
On the other ground at Po Kong Village, a similar fate befell Centaurs, who were beaten by Hong Kong Under-19's despite an unbeaten century from Chandrin Dissanayake. Centaurs scored 189-3 from their 35 overs while Hong Kong Under-19's reached the target for the loss of seven wickets with Sher Lama top scoring with 58. Neel claimed three wickets for Centaurs.
At Mission Road, St George's scored a comfortable victory over CCC. CCC could only manage a total of 120 with Mahmood and Sohali claiming three wickets each for St George's. Unbeaten knocks from Iftikhar and Amjid lifted St George's to a comfortable eight wicket victory.
SCC Vampires scored a more impressive victory as they thrashed hosts HKU by ten wickets at the Sandy Bay ground. Bruce Abernathy scored 78 as HKU posted a total of 165-9 from their 35 overs, while Ankur Sharma grabbed three wickets for SCC Vampires. The Vampires cruised to victory thanks to unbeaten half-centuries from their openers Krishnan (88*) and Surajit Banarjee (54*).
It was anything but lop-sided at Hong Kong Cricket Club where Tartars scored an 8-run victory over Gap Ramblers. Batting first, Tartars scored 209-8 with Anoop Nainani hitting 58 and Shkawat Ali scoring 86, while Gittens captured three wickets. Shkawat Ali then grabbed four wickets, as did Afzaal Haider, as Gap Ramblers were dismissed for 201. Nicholas Way top scored for Gap Ramblers with 62 while M Wood scored 40.
At Kowloon Cricket Club, Saracens succumbed meekly to Lamma. Batting first, Saracens were dismissed for a paltry 77 with Terry Pontikos claiming four wickets whilst Jamshaid Khan claimed three. Lamma cruised to their target for the loss of three wickets, with Kevin McNamara hitting 33.
Meanwhile, at the Police Training College, Kai Tak savoured the spoils of victory over Police. Police batted first but were dismissed for 164 with Dave Belcastro picking up three wickets. In reply, Jeremy Doubleday hit an undefeated 60 as Kai Tak eased to victory by five wickets.

There was a very exciting match played at Hong Kong Cricket Club where HKCC Wanderers beat Millennium CC by 3 runs in a high scoring thriller. On the back of centuries from Darren Tucker (122*) and Martin Holcombe (102), HKCC Wanders scored an impressive 321-6 from their 50 overs. But Millennium looked to have made light work of that chase as Muntaz Khan smashed 83 and Shiraz Khan 48 but three wickets each from Robert Tucker and Michael Jamieson stopped them in their tracks. Millennium CC lost their last wicket with their total on 318 - just three runs short of victory with eight full overs still to bat.
In another tight match played at Mission Road, Optimists were made to work hard for their victory over Vagabonds. Vagabonds posted a modest score of 226-7 from their 50 overs with Ankur Sharma hitting a half-century and Mark Fuzes claiming three wickets. Fuzes then hit a half-century of his own while Tiku Patidar scored 67 as Optimists scampered to a three wicket victory from the first ball of the final over. Tauseef Bukhari and Ankur Sharma both claimed three wickets for Vagabonds.
The Chris Collins Memorial Trophy was up for grabs in the local derby at Kowloon Cricket Club between Infidels and Templars. Templars dominated the match throughout, dismissing infidels for just 145 in 39.5 overs and then knocking of the winning runs in 34.2 overs, for the loss of five wickets. Damian Kelleher provided the only batting highlight for Infidels with 52, while Afzaal Haider claimed wickets for Templars. Rohan Boghani provided the backbone of the Templars reply with a polished 68 while S Pereira grabbed three wickets for Infidels.
Pakistan Association struggled to beat Sri Lanka Club at Po Kong Village Road despite bowling the Sri Lanka Club out for just 90 in 23 overs. The bowlers had a field day as Hong Kong reps Najeeb Amar and Ilyas Gul picked up four wickets each for Pakistan Association. Farman Ali then grabbed three wickets himself as Pakistan Assoctaion lost five wickets in reaching their target in just 14.3 overs.

The KCC Maidens scored their first victory of the season as they beat the Sri Lanka Club by four wickets in the latest match of the 2006-07 HKCA Skitz Sports Bar Women's Cricket League. Jessica Park collected three wickets for eight runs as the Sri Lanka Club women were dismissed for just 63. In reply, Tilicia claimed four wickets as the KCC Maidens responded with 64-6 in reply.
